Over 15 years ago, Roger and Lonie Price moved to Lafayette to begin a ministry to the Acadian people in South Louisiana.  They established the foundations of Acadian Baptist Church.  In November of 2007, through God’s providence, the Prices were called to the Acadians of Canada.  Brandon Nealy & Michael Perdue, who had recently relocated to Lafayette for the sole purpose of starting a church, heard of a need to continue the work of the Prices in Lafayette.  It was a church-planting team’s dream and one week later Brandon and Mike moved into a little retail space that the Prices had been renting and continued the ministry.   Pastor Brandon says often, “We just began preaching, teaching and praying that God would send us some faithful Christians to help in the establishment of a local Gospel-preaching church.”  And God answered that prayer --- over and over again.   

In August, 2008, Acadian Baptist Church held their first Lord’s Supper and Baptism services.  The Covenant and Constitution were established and the process of taking official membership began.  But, there was a slight problem:  the Fire Marshal.  Only fifty people were allowed in the building at a time, and that soon became a bigger problem.  It was at this moment of weakness that God showed Himself to be strong. 

Covenant Christian Fellowship another local church of like faith decided to give Acadian Baptist Church a beautiful piece of property, a sanctuary and fellowship hall at 1700 E. Willow St.  As time continued many of the Covenant Christian Fellowship members joined with Acadian Baptist Church in “a spiritual merger that filled all of our hearts with great joy.”  In honor of Covenant Christian Fellowship’s immense generosity, heritage, and history we decided to change the name of our church to Covenant Baptist Church.
